What is the Typhoid (Widal) Test?

Why is it done?
- Fever lasting several days, often rising gradually
- Stomach pain, loss of appetite, constipation or loose motions with fever
- Fever after eating outside food or drinking unsafe water
How to prepare

Understanding your results
Results are reported as titres. Higher titres, or a rise on repeat testing, support typhoid. The Widal test can be positive from past infection or vaccination, so your doctor interprets it with your symptoms; a blood culture is the more definitive test.
