What is the Lipid Profile test?

A lipid profile measures total cholesterol, LDL ('bad') cholesterol, HDL ('good') cholesterol, triglycerides and related ratios. Together they show how much fat is circulating in your blood.

Why is it done?

  • Routine heart-health check for adults
  • Diabetes, high blood pressure, excess weight or a family history of heart disease
  • Monitoring cholesterol-lowering treatment

How to prepare

  • Fast for 10–12 hours (water is fine) unless your doctor says otherwise
  • Avoid alcohol and heavy, oily meals the day before

When will I get my report?

Usually within 4 hours (done in-house). You'll receive an SMS with your login to download the report online. Need help reading it? Try our free AI report explainer in English or Hindi.

Understanding your results

Generally, total cholesterol below 200 mg/dL and triglycerides below 150 mg/dL are desirable. Lower LDL and higher HDL are better. Your doctor sets LDL targets based on your overall heart risk.

Frequently asked questions

Is fasting needed for a lipid profile?

It is usually advised (10–12 hours), mainly for accurate triglycerides.

Is high HDL bad?

No. HDL is the protective 'good' cholesterol, so a higher value is generally favourable.
